چکیده

In recent years, routing has been the most focused area in ad hoc networks research. On-demand routing in particular, is widely developed in bandwidth constrained mobile wireless ad hoc networks because of its effectiveness and efficiency. Most proposed on-demand routing protocols however, build and rely on single route for each data session. Whenever there is a link disconnection on the active route, the routing protocol must perform a route recovery process. In QoS routing for wired networks, multiple path routing is popularly used. Multiple routes are however, constructed using link-state or distance vector algorithms which are not well-suited for ad hoc networks. We propose an on-demand routing scheme called Split Multipath Routing (SMR) that establishes and utilizes multiple routes of maximally disjoint paths. Providing multiple routes helps minimizing route recovery process and control message overhead. Our protocol uses a per-packet allocation scheme to distribute data packets into multiple paths of active sessions. This traffic distribution efficiently utilizes available network resources and prevents nodes of the route from being congested in heavily loaded traffic situations. We evaluate the performance of our scheme using extensive simulation.

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks

Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...

An adaptive framework for multipath routing via maximally zone-disjoint shortest paths in ad hoc wireless networks with directional antenna

Application of multipath routing techniques in mobile ad hoc networks has been explored earlier, as multipath routing may help to reduce end-to-end delay, perform load balancing and consequently improve throughput. However, it has also been shown that the success of multipath routing in ad hoc wireless network depends on network topology and channel characteristics can severely limit the gain o...

On the reliability of ad hoc routing protocols for loss-and-delay sensitive applications

In this paper, we analyze the packet delivery reliability of ad hoc routing protocols for lossand-delay sensitive applications. Since a typical flooding-based route discovery used in ad hoc routing protocols – DSR for instance – can only discover node-disjoint paths. In this context, we first show that the reliability function of such a multipath system is concave with respect to the total numb...

A Graph-Based Approach to Compute Multiple Paths in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Multipath on-demand routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks try to reduce control overhead and end-to-end delay by computing multiple paths with a single route discovery process. We propose Graph-based Multipath Routing (GMR), a novel multipath routing protocol that generate the network topology graph to compute all link disjoint paths in the network. The destination node computes link dis...
